Dear Parents: The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTM NERR) is offering a five-day Estuary Sciences Camp from Monday, July 28th through Friday, August 1st for students ENTERING the FIFTH grade in the fall. The Camp will start at 8:30 am each day and end at 2:30 pm. Parents will need to bring their children to the camp between 8:15 and 8:30 each morning and pick them up between 2:30 and 3 pm each afternoon. Click here for the The Application Form and Parent Information Sheet. The Application Form should be completed and returned to the GTM NERR by May 15. The cost of the program is $140. If your child is selected for the program, a package containing release forms and a student information form with medical information will be mailed to you in late May. Payment should be made when these forms are returned to the GTM NERR offices by June 8. The program is designed for twelve students who are interested in learning about the plants, animals and environments around the estuary and some of the scientific techniques used in the study of the estuary. The program will include classroom instruction, games, and experiments in the Environmental Education Center and field trips, such as testing water quality from a boat (weather permitting), using seine nets to observe marine animals and an exploration of several habitats to identify native plants and birds. With the exception of the boat field trip, all activities will take place on the grounds of the GTM NERR - Guana Campus located just off of A1A 16 miles south of Butler Blvd. There will be no tests or grades, just learning and fun. Sincerely, Diana Eissing Public Information Specialist |
